Yes, you really do need to drain your Softub water

Your wife left for a day of shopping, leaving you to change the water in the Softub. But, changing the water in your Softub seems like a daunting task and you had other plans for the day. Draining, cleaning and refilling your tub is not nearly as fun as soaking in your tub or that nap you were hoping to take. Besides, you don’t really need to change the water, right? Wrong! Clean water means healthy water. Putting off routine maintenance compromises the health of your Softub. Fortunately, changing the water is actually a very easy task and not something that will take all day. (Don’t worry, we won’t tell your wife.) Follow these simple steps so you can check cleaning the Softub off your list and get your Saturday back.

Flush Your Plumbing Clean (recommended once per year)

Just prior to draining your tub, we strongly recommend the addition of Swirl Away once per year. All hot tub plumbing lines accumulate biofilm and right before draining is the optimum time to flush those plumbing lines out. This process takes about 60 min and the directions are as follows:

Directions For Use:

  1. Remove filter cartridge.

  2. Pour 1/2 bottle into spa filled with hot water, run for 60 minutes without air on.

  3. Drain tub and rinse with clean water.

  4. Refill with new water.

So add Swirl Away and let it filter while you go fix yourself a snack!

Drain

Now that your belly is full and your pipes are flushed, it is time to drain out all of the water. This might take a little time, but once you start the draining, you could head off for a little cat nap. There are two recommended ways to drain your Softub. The first is to create a gravity drain using a regular garden hose. Simply hold the hose in front of a jet until water is coming out the other end, and then place the hose towards the bottom of the tub and let gravity do the rest. This one will definitely take the longest. The other option is to invest in a submersible pump like this one. This makes the job of draining your tub super easy and quick.

Clean

While your tub is draining, it’s a great time to give the inside liner a bath. We love BaquaSpa Surface Cleaner for this job. This awesome product, compatible with both chlorine and BaquaSpa chemical systems, is a gel cleaner that leaves your tub sparkling. Simply place a little gel on a clean sponge or washcloth, and scrub the dirt away. You can rinse with the water as it’s being drained so the dirt goes out with the water.

Clean Your Filter

Just as important as adding the proper chemicals is maintaining a clean filter. We recommend you replace the filter cartridge yearly, but in between it’s very important to rinse your cartridge thoroughly. For a deeper cleaning, you can use BaquaSpa Filter Cleaner which will actually dissolve body oils, perspiration, lotions, etc off the pleats of the filter. Much more effective than just rinsing with water!

Refill

Yep, that’s it. You are done with your work and ready to start refilling your tub just in time to turn on the big game. The only thing that is left to do is adjust your chemicals once your tub is full. It really is that easy.

Don’t worry, your secret's safe with us. Your wife never has to know that your day really consisted of a snack, a nap and watching the game.
